The Maryland Film Festival reopened Baltimore’s historic Parkway Theatre in 2017, expanding from seasonal event to year-round film and arts venue.

Joining the programming team, I operated dually in a curatorial role and as the organization’s de facto art director. Our celebrated festival showcased indie circuit standouts and our theatre hosted an array of arthouse film and live music. My creative promoted that programming through in-hand ephemera and in-theatre signage, across paid and organic social channels, and within traditional print media.

Chief among our materials was the bimonthly programming guide that I designed and edited. The substantial guide presented engaging art and text about each of our upcoming films and events, including programming team commentary, critics quotes, and a foldout calendar.

The annual festival required unique sub-branding and campaigns. Each year, Baltimore’s Post Typography crafted event artwork tailored to nest under their corporate brand for the organization, which I translated across mediums. Outside the scope of their branding was the official festival laurels, which I redesigned in 2018 with a nod to our Spring calendar date. Between festivals, I also designed a micro-campaign to attract submissions.

We hosted a range of film series at the theatre that became my opportunity to craft event sub-branding. The Baltimore Greek Film Festival was one such event, for which I designed and illustrated a series branding to appear across marketing materials.

For regular programming at the theatre, our creative output ranged from weekly schedule ads in print to targeted social posts. Where possible, I generated unique artwork for a given event, like this traditional photo composite for the for the special—albeit graphic—director’s cut of The House That Jack Built.
